Buddha was born in a royal family with King Suddhodhan and Queen Maya Devi as the parents who ruled in Kapilvastu. The King and Queen were childless for a long time until one night Queen Maya Devi had a dream about a white elephant which was Bodhisatva ( Buddha) himself. The Queen got pregnant as the Bodhisatva entered her womb. One day the queen set out to visit her parents’ house. She went to take rest in the beautiful garden of Lumbini, where she gave to Siddhartha Gautam (Buddha) from her armpit and immediately after his birth, he walked seven steps forward. God and goddess appeared in the sky, full of happiness, poured nectar of immortality and flowers onto him. In his birth, priest forecasted that either he will be great emperor of the world or will be great yogi. His father tried his best to make him a great warrior and a good heir of his throne. The prince became young enough to get married and he married with Yashodhara and had a son named Rahul. In spite of all his father’s effort he could not feel comfortable inside the palace and wished to have a visit outside. He set out with chariot and soon saw saint, old and ill people along with the dead bodies being taken to the cemetery. He had never experienced these sights before and learned these stages of life was inevitable for him too. He had seen too much and needed to find the cause of suffering. Therefore he decided to leave the palace in search of peace and knowledge. He went far from country, practiced meditation, and learned many things from many teachers. But still he had not found the knowledge he sought and he had tried many forms of meditation. He did not take anything for six years of meditation, he had become very weak- seemed to be only skin and bones .then he realized and learned that he had to take the middle path and what he needed to do would take energy, he began eating again. Finally he achieved enlightenment. After achieving enlightenment, he traveled many places, preaching the people. At the age of eighty, the very day he was born and had achieved enlightenment, he attained parinirvana on the bank of river at Kushi Nager.
